Student Ministry

Growing Young Disciples

Our Student Ministry is dedicated to introducing each middle and high school student to the gospel of Jesus Christ and equipping them to grow in their faith. We believe these formative years are crucial for developing a personal relationship with Christ and learning to live out faith in everyday life.

Scripture reminds us that youth are not exempt from spiritual growth and leadership: “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12). Through our student ministry, we aim to create spaces where young people can deepen their understanding of God’s Word, develop authentic Christian community, and discover how to use their unique gifts to serve others.

Weekly Opportunities

Sunday School — A time of study and instruction in God’s Word and its application to life. Students meet at 9:30am in their designated classrooms in the FLOC.

Sunday Worship — Youth are encouraged to worship with their families during our regular service. Students can also use their gifts by participating in the worship service: singing in the choir, helping with nursery or children’s church, or helping at the Audio/Visual desk.

Rock the FLOC — An informal group time featuring prayer, Bible study, and fellowship. Special events and service projects like visiting our homebound members and “Sunshine Friends” also occur. Students meet in the gym Sundays at 4pm.

Faith in Action

Retreats & Conferences — Several times throughout the year, our students participate in transformative retreats and conferences. Weekend retreats include the 180 Weekend here in Gastonia and the Spring and Fall Presbytery retreats to Bonclarken. Students also have the opportunity to attend Quest and Horizon, week-long conferences designed to encourage them in their faith and equip them for service.

Church Events — Our youth serve in several church-wide events including the Valentine’s Day Banquet, the Youth Missions Yard Sale, Vacation Bible School, and Parent’s Night Out.

Youth Missions — Each year, our high school students participate in the Appalachia Mountain Mission, a mission trip organized by World Witness of the ARP. Joining with over 15 other churches, our youth serve and share the light of Christ with children throughout the Appalachian Mountain region.
